Healthy Meal suggestions for China King

Having moved to Ann Arbor recently, we've been looking for good Chinese food. China King has by far been the best in the area. Now it's the only local place we go. The inside is plain but clean, most of the business is take out from what I've seen. Kids love it. It's comparable to our favorite place Chinese Tonite in Chelsea, which has the best General Chicken.

This place is pretty good. The quality of the ingredients seems better than most of the cheaper Chinese restaurants in town. I like that they give you chicken fried rice with the combos vs the traditional pork rice. And they will also substitute white meat in your chicken dishes if you ask. It is a tiny place so I always get take out but the staff seems friendly. Worth a try if you are looking for something quick and cheap.

We have lived in Ann Arbor for 10 years and I have always been disappointed by the local Chinese food ...until now! We decided to venture to China King tonight and were not disappointed. We ordered the Szechuan Tofu, Seafood Delight, Chicken on a Stick and Fried Dumplings. My son enjoyed the chicken and dumplings quite a bit (and he's pretty picky), my tofu was delicious (the sauce was fantastic and tofu nice and crispy on the outside with plenty of vegetables) and my husband enjoyed the seafood (the shrimp was nicely cleaned as opposed to how shrimp is typically prepared at most of the other Chinese places in Ann Arbor). The space is simple, but clean. The staff was friendly and the food was made to order. We're definitely visiting again!

Good solid Americanized Chinese food; the sort of stuff your parents or grandparents would consider exotic. Makes some reasonable salty, sweet comfort food. Easy pickup if you've got a car; Jackson Road isn't the best location for fetching takeout by bike, but it can be done. There were a reasonable number of people eating there, but the soda machine in the dining room feels like they took over a Taco Bell location and didn't bother rearranging the appliances. Veggie Moo Shu, Orange Chicken, and all the old stand-bys are here; much more "the Chinese food of your childhood" than "the food your friend's Chinese parents cook." Still, on a cold night it'll warm you up.

Not a whole lot to say on this one. General Tso's lunch special was perfectly good, side of fried rice was mostly just chicken bits and soy sauce-doused rice, (no egg, vegetable,) but everything was tasty, hot, and service was prompt if not overly friendly. Decent Chinese takeaway, I would definitely eat there again, it was only 6.00 for a decent amount of food. (Chicken, rice, soup or egg roll.) I'd recommend takeaway for this one, the dining area of the restaurant is really small and the ambiance is what you'd expect from strip mall Chinese fare.

Fast and reasonable cost. Food is great. Great Hot and Sour soup. Eat in, take out, and delivery. I have enjoyed the Mongolian Beef, Orange Beef, General Tso Chicken, and Pepper Steak.

Cute little place. Good wonton soup. Great lunch special pricing and fast service. I am looking forward to trying more items on the menu. I order Hunan Shrimp lunch combo. HUGE beautiful shrimp in this dish. I was really surprised. Really great dish. Easy location too. Can't claim they are the best yet but it the wonton soup is any indications, I am on board so far.

I've eaten chinese food all over the place, and this is good, fast 'american' chinese fare with high quality ingredients. Good fresh vegetables, real quality chicken, good strong flavors. Chicken with garlic sauce is outstanding. Loved the egg roll and won ton soup too.

Was really looking forward to trying this place. I didn't want a lot of leftovers so I ended up just getting a couple of appetizers... The crab ragoon and the spicy sesame noodles... Why is that every Chinese restaurant spicy seasame noodles tastes like spaghetti mixed with peanut butter with red pepper flakes sprinkled on top? This restaurant was no exception... I was so dissapointed... The crab ragoon, on the other hand, was pretty good. There were 8 pieces filled with crab and cream cheese... The staff were very nice. The restaurant offers plenty of seating and parking. Prices were very reasonable. I will be back!

We were greeted by the owner who showed a charming sense of humor. The food was outstanding. Apparently this place is a favorite of the many nearby car dealers. My new go to place for Chinese in Ann Arbor.

Picked up takeout from this place, was not disappointed! The veggies in my Hunan Chicken were obviously fresh, and the egg rolls were amazing. I'll definitely be back. It didn't look like much on first walking in, but the food is great. The gentleman working the floor was very polite, also. I'll be back for seconds! Best Chinese food I've had since moving to A2!

I have eaten Chinese food in Singapore, India, Manhattan, SanFran and New Jersey so I do come with a certain amount of experience with authentic, "homestyle" and your run of the mill take out stuff. While China King is no authentic dining gourmet experience, it is just simple, super-delicious no-frills Chinese food. That's it. Don't come here with stupid expectations of some off menu crazy homestyle hotpot or some obscure Chinese dish that'll make it pass the authenticity test. ALl this place does is (and it does it real well) is provide quick, yummy, very tasty, freshly prepared Chinese food. If you go in here with that expectation, you will be very happy. I love their food and order take out quite often and give this a definite 5 stars.

Excited about the restaurant since it had a four-star review... until my partner and I returned home and had to rock-paper-scissor for the bathroom. Súper disappointing.

Excellent Hunan chicken. It's hard to find a place that does decent Hunan sauce; a lot of them are sweetish and I dislike that. China King does Hunan right! I like it hot and regular spicy was perfect. I'll be back!

A lot of good choices, everything is delicious. Love their sweet and sour chicken-the chicken is crisp. We usually get carry out but have eaten in their restaurant and service was great. I am appreciative of local places that treat their customers well.

China King is my go to place for New York style Chinese food in Ann Arbor. I'm not the biggest fan of the places around campus, so I often drive out to Jackson just for this place. I love their hot and sour soup.

I can't honestly say how China King compares to other inexpensive Chinese restaurants in Ann Arbor or nearby, but then again, I don't really want to know. Very reasonable prices, clean seating area, prompt and polite service, and DELICIOUS meals. I've had the Szechuan tofu, sesame chicken, wonton soup, and egg drop soup, and they have all been above average. Furthermore, the white rice is fluffy and fresh, and the vegetables are fresh too! I'm sold. Give it a shot.

food was fine but not outstanding. Worst service I have had in years. Waited 40 minutes to get our order taken, and even then only because got up and complained at the counter. Server was very rude entire time.

I am shocked and appauled that China King hasn't gotten more reviews on here! I first went to China King on a whim, after reading the glowing review of Amer. As of most places, I was a little hesitant in what to except, but boy, it blew my expectations out of the water. If you've read any of my other reviews on Chinese food, or food in general, you know that I'm sort of picky when it comes to the quality of my General's chicken. If I had it my way, Chinese places would team up with BDubs, and turn Asian Zing boneless wings, fried rice, and an egg roll into the most amazing meal ever. Out of sheer inconvenience, I've never made this dream a reality, although it would be fairly simple. Anyway, the General's chicken at China King was yelp 5-star worthy. I specifically requested the white meat, and still didn't know what I would get, but it was great. No mystery meat here folks. If you have a discerning toungue like I do when it comes to your General's chicken, this place is definitely worth a try.

I have been a regular at China King for about a year. This place lives up to its name. If you are looking for tangy, succulent orange chicken then look no further. One bite of that sweet breaded meat is like heaven for your taste buds. I asked the waiter what he recommended and his soft voice replied, "you like spicy? you like spicy?". I felt like I was in Shanghai.

Love this place! Great tasting food at extremely reasonable prices. One of my top two favorite Chinese restaurants in Ann Arbor.

I came to China King based on others' Yelp review and I have to say I was disappointed. China King does average-quality takeout Chinese. If you are expecting more, you will be disappointed. First, I'd have to strongly recommend against a dine-in experience. The seating area is quite minimal and not particularly comfortable. While we were there the staff seemed overwhelmed and we barely received any attention. It took about 10 minutes for us to get water! As to the food, it was OK, fairly bland. The Hot and Sour soup was neither particularly spicy nor sour. Many of the ingredients from the Happy Family and the Beef Ho Fun were clearly canned or otherwise processed. The string bean dish was well cooked with a nice toothy feel, but even this dish was underseasoned. The rice was overcooked. This is a tell tale sign of a restaurant that is trying to pinch pennies rather than pay attention to important details. If you are looking for standard takeout and live in the neighborhood, China King is fine. If you are looking for anything more, keep on looking.

TERRIBLE!!! I live close to this establishment, and know of family who like it, so my son and I tried it. Upon walking in, the place was dirty....not a customer in sight. Dirty dishes left on tables. Mop bucket in plain sight next to counter. We waited about 20 minutes for our food (after being told it would be 10), then went home. I ordered sesame chicken and a spring roll, and my son ordered sweet and sour chicken. We were disappointed. The sesame chicken tasted funny and so did the broccoli in that meal. My son did not like his sweet and sour chicken. The spring roll was horrible. We will not go back, or order from them again.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
